NOTES
FOR THE GUIDANCE OF CANDIDATES
LIMITS
Statements
of Attainment for the units that make up "Elements of Shipboard
Safety" are prerequisites for all commercial qualifications
up to (and including) Master Class 4. It is also generally required
for all crew on commercial vessels and is strongly recommended for
those pursuing recreational maritime training.
PREREQUISITES
There
are no prerequisites for these units.
SCOPE
Elements
of Shipboard Safety is made up of the following units from the Maritime
training package;
TDM
MF11 07B - Survive at Sea in the Event of Vessel Abandonment
TDM
MF54 07A - Observe safety and emergency procedures on a coastal
vessel
TDM
MF55 07A - Fight and extinguish fires onboard a coastal vessel
These
units aim to develop an awareness of workplace health and safety
issues in the maritime industry and an ability to cope efficiently
and effectively with emergency situations on board. In addition
to classroom workshops, the course includes practical training in
the use of life-jackets and life-rafts, fire fighting and flare
activation.
COURSE
STRUCTURE
This
course is delivered flexibly but does include attendance at a practical
workshop conducted over 24 hours, usually Friday, Saturday and Sunday
(0800 to 1630).
