Marine Radio Operators' Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP)

Incorporates unit TDM;

  • ME5 07B - Marine radio operator`'s certificate of proficiency

MROCP is provided by AMTC as a scheduled course; attendance is highly recommended. Alternatively, candidates may self study from the 'Radio Operator's Handbook' and attend the examination.

Course Dates (3 evenings plus exam)

  • 1, 3 and 5 September 2008 (evenings) Exam 6 September 2008
  • 3, 5 and 7 November 2008 (evenings) Exam 8 November 2008

Elements of Shipboard Safety

Incorporates units TDM;

  • MF11 07B - Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment
  • MF54 07A - Observe safety and emergency procedures on a coastal vessel
  • MF55 07A - Fight and extinguish fires onboard a coastal vessel

Elements of Shipboard Safety requires mandatory attendance at the scheduled workshops. In addition, candidates are required to self study segments of the units and complete assignments.

Workshop Dates (3 days 0800 - 1630)

  • 1, 2 and 3 August 2008
  • 19, 20 and 21 September 2008
  • 31 October, 1 and 2 November 2008
  • 5, 6 and 7 December 2008

Nautical Knowledge (Coxswain)

Incorporates units TDM;

  • MB45 07A - Monitor condition and seaworthiness of a small vessel
  • MC7 07C - Apply seamanship skills and techniques when operating a small commercial vessel
  • MC9 07C - Manoeuvre a commercial vessel less than 12 metres in length within inshore limits
  • ME11 07A - Contribute to effective communications and teamwork
  • MF32 07C - Apply domestic regulations when operating a small vessel
  • MH12 07B - Plan and navigate a short voyage within inshore limits
  • MR54 07B - Carry out re-fuelling and fuel transfer systems
  • MU5 07B - Ensure compliance with environmental considerations in a small domestic vessel

Nautical Knowledge (Coxswain) does not require attendance at classroom based workshops.

Attendance is, however, recommended, particularly for candidates not currently employed in the maritime industry.

The purposes of the Nautical Knowledge classroom based workshops are to provide opportunities for candidates to;

  • overview the requirements of a unit
  • review their progress,
  • receive assistance from a qualified trainer in sections of the unit posing difficulties, and
  • practice applying the knowlege gained through mentored self study.

Nautical Knowledge (Coxswain) does require attendance at onboard practical workshop.

The purposes of the Nautical Knowledge onboard practical workshops are to provide candidates with opportunities to;

  • review performance in the required skills
  • receive assistance from a qualified trainer in skills posing difficulties, and
  • be assessed in practical skills required.

Candidate should have completed most, if not all, of the units incorporated in Nautical Knowledge (Coxswain) before attendance at an onboard practical workshop.

Engineering Knowledge (Coxswain)

Incorporates units TDM;

  • MR30 07B - Operate and carry out basic maintenance on a small vessel marine propulsion system
  • MR31 07B - Operate and carry out basic maintenance on auxiliary systems
  • MR32 07B - Operate and carry out basic routine maintenance on extra low voltage electrical systems, starter motors and alternators

Engineering Knowledge (Coxswain) does not require attendance at classroom based workshops.
