NOTES
FOR THE GUIDANCE OF CANDIDATES
USAGE
Training
as General Purpose Hand covers the basic requirements of
persons seeking to work on small commercial vessels as crew.
TRAINING
TDM
10107 Certificate I in Transport and Distribution (
Maritime Operations)
Mandatory
Units:
- TDM
MF11 07B Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment
- TDM
MF57 07A Assist in safe operations and emergency procedures on
a coastal vessel
These
two units may be completed in the context of ;
Elements
of Shipboard Safety incorporating; [Required
for all crew as from 1 September 2006]
- TDM
MF11 07B - Survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment
- TDM
MF54 07A - Observe safety and emergency procedures on a coastal
vessel
- TDM
MF55 07A - Fight and extinguish fires onboard a coastal vessel
Additional
Units:
Three
additional units are required to achieve minimum standards. The
three recommended units are;
- TDM
ME11 07A Contribute to communication and treamwork on a coastal
vessel
- TDM
MF10 07B Provide elementary first aid (not provided
by AMTC)
- TDM
MR60 07A Assist in routine deck operations within the limits of
responsibility of a General Purpose Hand
AMTC
also recommends candidates undertake:
- TDM
ME5 07B - Marine Radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency
Statements
of Attainment attesting to the satisfactory completion of a competency
based training program which includes the above units is advisable.
PREREQUISITES
Candidates
will be required to have adequate communication skills.
QUALIFYING
SERVICE
This
is an initial Certificate and there are no qualifying service requirements.
A
candidate should begin to maintain a Record of Service Book or Record
of Practical Experience and Service Book for logging sea service
details. Acceptable service for subsequent tickets can include commercial,
fishing, recreational, rescue or military service.
